Registration
Registration and Fees
Students must register and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Registration must be completed before students attend classes or otherwise make use of university facilities. The deadline for registration is September 16, 2011. After this date a late registration fee will be levied. Student Accounts has revised the registration invoice process and they will no longer be mailing paper invoices to students. You can view instructions on the Student Accounts website, view your account on the Student Web Service and then make payment. Fee schedules are available at www.fees.utoronto.ca. Under certain circumstances, payment of fees may be deferred – you should check with the EEB Graduate Administrator for more information (grad (at)eeb [dot] utoronto [dot] ca).
Graduate students may apply for affiliation with one of the U of T Mississauga or U of T Scarborough campuses if they meet specific criteria. UTM/UTSC campus students are eligible for reduced non-academic incidental fees.
Fees paid by doctoral students in the final year of their program are pro-rated and based on the 12-month academic year. These fees are based on the date the thesis is submitted to the School of Graduate Studies, not the date of the thesis defense. For a table of monthly charges, refer to www.fees.utoronto.ca. PhD students who submit their final thesis with all corrections and modifications by September 15 do not pay fees for the September session but after this date a charge applies for each month in which degree requirements are not completed by the 15th of the month. Students finishing between September 16, 2011 and January 14, 2012 will pay a one-session incidental fee and those finishing between January 15, 2012 and August 31, 2012 will pay a two-session incidental fee.
Students whose time limit for degree completion has expired but wish to return (for a maximum of 12 months) to defend a thesis are required to be reinstated and pay a one session reinstatement fee. Students who are reinstated before the time for degree completion has expired are responsible for fees for sessions they have not registered in but were required to do so. For further information contact the EEB Graduate Administrator (grad (at)eeb [dot] utoronto [dot] ca).
The Graduate Students Information Booklet was mailed during the week of August 1st to new students only. Continuing students may view the SGS calendar on the SGS website (http://www.sgs.utoronto.ca/calendar.htm). This booklet contains information on important deadlines, frequently asked question and answers and a letter from the Graduate Student’s Union.
University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)
UHIP is compulsory for all international students and provides coverage from the date of arrival until August 31, 2012. Dependents must enrol within 30 days of arriving. The International Student Centre is responsible for administering UHIP, distributing cards, processing exemptions and refunds and answering questions. The UHIP administrator can be reached at 978-0290, uhip [dot] information (at)utoronto [dot] ca, or http://www.isc.utoronto.ca/healthinsurance/uhipmain.htm
Student Cards and Email Accounts
All new students are required to have a T-Card, which serves as a student and library card. The cards will be issued at Robarts Library, Rm 2054. For further information, please check the library website at: www.library.utoronto.ca/services. Students will be asked to show two pieces of identification: photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) and one with your student number (e.g., Offer of Admission letter).
The University has approved the Policy on Official Correspondence with Students effective Sept 2006. Only University-issued email accounts will be accepted by the Student Web Service. Please create your University-issued email accounts and record the University email address in ROSI. Access to the University’s student portal and learning management system requires the UTORID username and password provided when the T-Card is created. Students must activate the UTORID in order to access the services and course information hosted on the portal. For information on how to create your email account please go to: https://www.utorid.utoronto.ca
