Aiken-Woods Graduate Scholarship

The Alfred and Florence Aiken and Dorothy Woods (Aiken-Woods) Memorial Graduate Scholarship was established from the estate of the late Alfred Aiken as one of four graduate scholarships at the University of Toronto (in the Departments of History, Cell and Systems Biology, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and the Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology).

Alfred Aiken

Alfred Aiken spent his working life as a printer, initially at the Toronto Telegram, who never had the opportunity of attending university. In spite of this, he was an avid learner, an insatiable reader and held a reverence for scholarship in all its forms. It was his hope that these scholarships would help to ignite the same passion for learning in future generations of scholars that he held.
