I am interested in the development of process skills in undergraduate students. Understanding how educators can balance the learning of content and process skills in the classroom has been the focus of the research I conducted in collaboration with many colleagues across the world.

As a tropical ecologist, I am interested in understanding the role of mineral licks as secondary sources of limiting nutrients, such as sodium, for frugivorous and herbivorous organisms in the Neotropics. Specifically, I have studied the phenomenon of mineral lick visitation by frugivorous bats (Stenodermatine) in the Peruvian Amazon and the biogeography of sodium in Ficus—a keystone resource—across the Neotropics.
