The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the St. George campus of the University of Toronto invites applications for a Departmental Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Area of Research: Ecology and/or Evolution
Description of duties: We encourage applications from highly motivated postdoctoral fellows with broad interests in ecology and evolutionary biology. The Fellow may collaborate with a single or multiple advisors on research in ecology and evolution. To facilitate interactions within the department, the Fellow will co-organize a seminar series in the first year and organize a workshop on a topic related to the Fellow’s interest for graduate students, postdocs and faculty in the second year. Although broad interactions within the department are expected, there is an emphasis on candidates with independence and innovative ideas, compared to more traditional post-docs who are expected to become members of a single lab and its research program. Given this independence, there will be access to a small research supplement to support the successful candidate’s research. The Fellow will be a fully participating member in the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology (EEB) at the University of Toronto’s St. George campus. Salary: $52,000 – $58,000 per year
Applicants must have a PhD in ecology and/or evolution or a related area of study, and field- specific qualifications as set by the faculty advisor(s).

Applicants should include names and e-mail addresses for two potential referees.

The University of Toronto is a leading academic institution in Canada with over 60 faculty members specializing in ecology and evolution. Strong links exist between the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and the Royal Ontario Museum, the Centre for Global Change, and the School of the Environment. The University owns a nearby field station dedicated to ecological and evolutionary research (Koffler Scientific Reserve). The department also has a partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources that helps provide access to infrastructure, including lab facilities in Algonquin Provincial Park (www.harkness.ca), funding, and long-term data sets. Genomic analyses are supported by a number of high-performance computing resources, multi-lab bioinformaticians, as well as staff at the Centre for the Analysis of Genome Evolution and Function.
The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
