Abstract: Equitable hiring practices are a frequently cited solution for addressing EDI issues within academic departments. Despite this, most departments do not have a clear or publicized statements about how they address bias in hiring practices, or a roadmap towards EDI goals in the department. Garth Coverton (Post-doctoral fellow, Rochman Lab) has done some reading and reflecting on the literature relating to academic recruiting and hiring practices, from the undergraduate to faculty level. In his talk, Garth will present a summary of what he has found and lead a discussion on how we can all work to combat our implicit biases and conduct more inclusive and equitable recruiting and hiring of the future representatives of EEB.
