About

James D. Thomson, FRSC, is professor emeritus of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto. Most of his work involves the evolutionary ecology of plant-animal interactions, with particular emphasis on plants and pollinators.

EEB Seminar Description

Both the scientific literature and the popular press reflect general agreement that a pollination crisis is either here or impending. Thomson is skeptical, and will discuss why the proposition is poorly defined and poorly supported by the evidence to date. Worse, he will argue that hardly any researchers are collecting the necessary data or even asking the right questions. Thomson will consider what data are needed.
