My varied research interests include interactions among forest disturbances, insect outbreaks, wildfire, spatial genetic consequences of outbreaking populations, landscape genetics, and community ecology.

My lab consists of a group of disturbance ecologists. Our research explores the impacts of wildfire, insect disturbance, and land-use on Canadian forest ecosystems in the current era of global change. We investigate these important problems through the application of a range of novel, quantitative, and data driven tools and methods.

Our goal is to conduct research that has practical impacts for understanding the links between forest patterns and processes to better forecast the consequences of land-use and global change on forest health. We collaborate with government agencies, private stakeholders, and communities to generate new knowledge and meaningful impacts necessary for conserving forest ecosystem structure and function.
