Undergraduate Studies
The Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology is one of the largest department’s of its kind in North America, with internationally renowned and award-winning faculty.
We offer over 55 undergraduate courses, covering such areas as molecular evolution, population and quantitative genetics, genomics, animal behaviour, population, community, and landscape ecology, evolutionary and ecological theory, biodiversity, conservation biology, and systematics.
Over half of our undergraduate courses have a “hands-on” laboratory or field component. Students can participate in field courses in the New World tropics, Maritimes, California or at U of T’s Koffler Scientific Reserve.
Our undergraduate students are also encouraged to participate in cutting-edge research. Research opportunities are available to students in their second, third and fourth years, as well as the summer months.
Currently, we directly sponsor six Programs of Study. We co-sponsor three POSts in Biology and one POSt in Genome Biology with our sister department, Cell & Systems Biology. Please note that EEB and CSB will continue to co-sponsor Botany and Zoology programs for students enrolled in those POSts prior to January 2011.
We invite you to enrol in our courses and in one or more of our Programs of Study. Our undergraduate students learn first hand that the ecological and evolutionary underpinnings of life on Earth present a host of scientific problems that are both intellectually challenging and critical to our future.
